| Computer
Resource Program |
|
| The
purpose of the Computer Resource Program is to assist in the implementation
of the Virginia Computer/Technology Standards of Learning. These
Standards of Learning (SOL) are designed to be minimum proficiencies
achieved by students by the end of grades five and eight.
The
Computer Resource Specialist (CRS) along with the Library Media
Specialist (LMS) are the school’s Technology Team. The CRS works
closely with the teacher to develop and teach lessons that integrate
technology. This is accomplished through regular grade level meetings
with the CRS and LMS to discuss and prepare lesson plans. The CRS
is also responsible for coordinating technology training for the
building's staff, and acts as a building-level triage person for
specific trouble-shooting tasks. |

| Technology
Center |
|
The
Technology Center uses a modified-flexible schedule in which students
are scheduled to come to the lab with their class weekly or bi-weekly.
This allows for the flexibility required to successfully integrate
technology into the core curriculum areas. It also allows classes
to schedule extended time to continue work on projects. We
have 30 computer stations in the Technology Center. All computers
are networked with Internet access operating on Windows XP with
Office 2003 installed. In addition, each full-size classroom, the
Technology Center, and the Library Media Center have ceiling-mounted
video projectors which are directly connected to a computer station
and a DVD/VCR combo player. This setup allows for the
teacher to incorporate a variety of multimedia into the daily instruction. All computers at Arrowhead are networked via a LAN with network services ranging from shared folders and files to filtered Internet access.

| Classroom
Technology |
|
|
Every
classroom at Arrowhead Elementary School has at least three computer
stations with one station dedication to the ceiling-mounted video
projector. This setup allows the teacher to easily incorporate a
variety of multimedia into the daily instruction. Wireless keyboards
and presenters provide mobility for the teacher and another way
to incorporate student participation in the instructional process.
We are currently one of four schools that have this multimedia setup
in the classrooms. |

| Mobile
Technology |
 |
|
| A
laptop cart is also available for classroom use enabling each classroom
to become a mini-lab. We |
|
|
also have two AlphaSmart word processing keyboard carts for classroom
use. The flexibility these carts offer allows instruction to continue
or to expand beyond the Technology Center and traditional classroom
setting. |
| |
|
| Software |
|
| Much
of the software in use at Arrowhead is curriculum-specific, focusing
on a particular subject or task. Some of the software titles you can
expect to hear about are Milley and Bailey Kindergarten,
Graph Club, Timeliner, Neighborhood Map Machine,
Kid Pix, Inspiration, Kidspiration, and Microsoft
PowerPoint. Cross-curricular computer activities cover multiple
subjects and utilize a variety of software packages including Microsoft
Office 2003 (word processing, spreadsheet, and multimedia), ImageBlender
(graphics), and Eye Witness Encyclopedia of Science (research). |
| |
|
| Internet
Access |
|
| Internet
research takes place in a structured environment supervised by teachers.
No "surfing" is allowed. A dynamic content filter, I-Gear,
is place on our server to prevent students from accidentally connecting
to objectionable web sites. No student is ever personally identified
on the Internet when they use a school computer. |

| Recycling Ink Cartridges |
|
|
We participate in the technology fund raising program sponsored by Cartridge World by collecting empty inkjet and laser printer cartridges from our community. Collected cartridges will earn the school money to be spent on technology materials and supplies. Please put all cartridges in Ziploc bags when you send them to school. |
