Please check out our latest details in our Pow-Wow Newsletter. This quarter's newsletter has many important dates about testing, end of the year closing, and many student activities.

Rising 6th Graders

Virginia law requires that all students entering the sixth grade have a booster dose of the Tdap vaccine. After your child receives the Tdap vaccine, the documentation should be either taken to your child's elementary school no later than June 16th or after June 16th to the guidance department of your child's middle school. Please note, your child will not be allowed to start school in September with the Tdap documentation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact either your physician, the VB Public Health Department at 518-2700, or the school division's Health Service Office at 263-2025.

Also, beginning in the 2017-18 school year, the instructional day for middle schools in Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) will shift 10 minutes. Under the new schedule, middle schools across the division will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end the day at 4 p.m. Currently, middle schools begin at 9:20 a.m. and end the day at 3:50 p.m.
The change will help alleviate transportation challenges and delays by building in more time between elementary school and middle school arrival and dismissal times.
Start times at Old Donation School (grades 2-8) and Bayside Sixth-Grade Campus will also change. Their new hours will be 8:35 a.m. to 3:39 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 3:35 p.m., respectively.
For more information, please visit vbschools.com.

Mainstream Early Childhood Special Education Preschool Opportunity

We are looking for 3 and 4 year old children who have great social skills and are able to follow directions to be preschool partners for our reverse mainstream early childhood special education preschool classroom. This is a great way for your child to learn new skills while meeting new friends in a developmentally appropriate school setting. The program runs from mid-September to June, Monday thru Thursdays and is no cost to you. Transportation not provided. This is not to be confused with the new VBCPS Pre-Kindergarten program for at-risk preschoolers (formally known as Early Discovers). For more information regarding the application process for this program, please contact Donna Sawyer at 757-263-1492.

If you are interested in this program please contact our front office for an application.
If you have any questions please email Mariana.crocker@vbschools.com or Elizabeth.greer@vbschools.com
We will begin screening applicants during the month of May.

Recommended Home Install for SOL Test Practice

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has been working to expand the types of devices that school divisions can use in the administration of Standards of Learning (SOL) online tests. In order to accomplish this goal, the VDOE is upgrading its software from TestNav7 to TestNav8. The software will be phased in during the 2016-2017 school year. There are no changes to the subjects tested or types of questions that will be presented. TestNav8 online practice items are only available through the TestNav8 app. Instructions on how to install TestNav8 on various devices are listed at the link below. Practice guides should be used when reviewing the online practice items and are available on the VDOE website. To view online practice items you will need to download the new TestNav8.

Monthly Parent Pick-up

Please be reminded that our dismissal time is 2:35 p.m. The designated parent pick-up location is the Arrowhead Cafeteria. This is a very busy time of day therefore, unless you have an unavoidable circumstance, we ask that you do not pick your child up until this time. Arriving even 5 minutes early for parent pick-up means classrooms are interrupted to call students out. On time pick-up helps us to ensure safety at dismissal.

Office and Student Hours

The main office of Arrowhead Elementary School will be open from 7:30 am - 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. Call the office at 757-648-2040 for more information.
