It's Teacher Appreciation Week

Teachers give us so much. A boost of confidence when we really need one. Extra help when we're having trouble. A welcoming presence when everything else seems out of control. And though we know we can't ever thank them enough, we can take a moment during National Teacher Appreciation Week to share our appreciation for the special educators in our lives.
Join NEA and the National PTA in saying "Thank You" during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 7-13.

The Spring Carnival is Coming!

During Arrowhead's Spring Carnival on May 13th, the PTA will be raffling off themed gift baskets created by Arrowhead families and staff. We are asking for your help! If you can contribute any unused items that are related to any of these themes, it would be greatly appreciated.

Below are the different themes that we are asking each grade level to help contribute towards.
Green Thumb Gardening Basket- Pre-K
Baker's Delight Basket- Kindergarten & First Grade
Summer Lovin' Basket- Second & Third Grade
Family Fun Basket- Fourth & Fifth Grade
Spa Retreat Basket – Arrowhead Staff

Please drop off any contributions to the front office with a note saying "Carnival Basket" and which themed basket you'd like to add to. You may send the items in with your child to give to his/her teacher as well. Thank you for your help and see you at the Spring Carnival!

Mainstream Early Childhood Special Education Preschool Opportunity

We are looking for 3 and 4 year old children who have great social skills and are able to follow directions to be preschool partners for our reverse mainstream early childhood special education preschool classroom. This is a great way for your child to learn new skills while meeting new friends in a developmentally appropriate school setting. The program runs from mid-September to June, Monday thru Thursdays and is no cost to you. Transportation not provided. This is not to be confused with the new VBCPS Pre-Kindergarten program for at-risk preschoolers (formally known as Early Discovers). For more information regarding the application process for this program, please contact Donna Sawyer at 757-263-1492.

If you are interested in this program please contact our front office for an application.
If you have any questions please email Mariana.crocker@vbschools.com or Elizabeth.greer@vbschools.com
We will begin screening applicants during the month of May.

Recommended Home Install for SOL Test Practice

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has been working to expand the types of devices that school divisions can use in the administration of Standards of Learning (SOL) online tests. In order to accomplish this goal, the VDOE is upgrading its software from TestNav7 to TestNav8. The software will be phased in during the 2016-2017 school year. There are no changes to the subjects tested or types of questions that will be presented. TestNav8 online practice items are only available through the TestNav8 app. Instructions on how to install TestNav8 on various devices are listed at the link below. Practice guides should be used when reviewing the online practice items and are available on the VDOE website. To view online practice items you will need to download the new TestNav8.

Monthly Parent Pick-up

Please be reminded that our dismissal time is 2:35 p.m. The designated parent pick-up location is the Arrowhead Cafeteria. This is a very busy time of day therefore, unless you have an unavoidable circumstance, we ask that you do not pick your child up until this time. Arriving even 5 minutes early for parent pick-up means classrooms are interrupted to call students out. On time pick-up helps us to ensure safety at dismissal.
